Step 1 Come Up With an Idea for Your Board Game

Pre-Meeting Prep Work

You will need to print out the Girl Scout Law game board, game cards, and the spinners. Laminate the game boards and cards. Game pieces should be bagged individually and sets made depending on how many groups you will have. There should be 3-4 girls in each group.

Materials

  • Girl Scout Law Game (found here at Diana Rambles)
  • Spinner (do a search for spinner templates-there are many! Print the one you want)
  • Game Rules for Girl Scout Law Game (see Step 1)
  • Game pieces
  • Dice (these can be used for other games throughout the years)

At the start of the meeting, ask the girls what kinds of board games they like to play. Ask them what it is they like about those games over others.

Give each girl a spinner to color and cut out. (This is Step 2 to earn this badge.)

Break the girls into groups and give them a laminated board game and the rules. Tell them this will help them learn the Girl Scout Law. If your girls cannot read, you will read the rules to them before they play.

Girl Scout Law Game Rules (feel free to change them or make up your own rules. This is a guide to get you started).

Set Up for Game:

Place the colored cards face down. The cards with words go in a pile.

Spin the spinner or roll the die or dice to decide who goes first. Highest number starts the game.

1. Turn over the top Girl Scout Law Word Card.
2. First player turns over one colored card.
3. If it is a match, the girl keeps the card. She spins the spinner and moves her game piece that number of spaces. The next player then has her turn.
4. If it is not a match, turn the card back over. The player on the left goes next.
5. The first player to get to the end wins.
6. If you run out of cards, reshuffle the deck and reuse them.

Step 3 Test Your Game and Make It Better

The girls have already tested the game out by playing it. For this step, have the girls in each group make up their own rules for this game board and pieces. Maybe they want to use two dice or two spinners or they can choose on each turn,
