Pre-Meeting Prep

The girls will be making robots out of recycled materials. You will need to save cartons, emtpy cereal boxes, paper towel tubes, cartons, containers, fabric scraps, bottle caps, jewels, and assorted craft materials.

You will also need lots of masking tape and if necessary, parent volunteers to help with hot glue guns if you decide to use them.

Step 1 Plan Your Robot

With the girls, go over what they have learned about robots from earning the previous badges. Break them up into groups to plan the robot design.

Step 2 Create a Prototype

For this step, you will want one adult for each group of girls. Groups should be 3-4 in size. They can take wahtever they need from the pile of items and start creating.

Includes 30 glue sticks

When I make robots with my preschool class each year, parents would supervise and help children settle their creative differences. They also handled the hot glue gun, which made everything stick together better.

We used masking tape for materials that could not be hot glued. The colorful set above helps make the robot even more colorful.

Step 3 Get Feedback on Your Robot

When each robot is done, have the girls share its name and what it does. The other girls can give their feedback on the positive things they like about the robot being discussed.

Make sure to take a picture of each girl with the robot, as well as a group photo, for her Girl Scout scrapbook.
