Not so long ago, robots doing the work of people seemed like a fantasy that was far off into the future. Now robots do many kinds of work that was typically done by humans. To earn the Girl Scout Daisy What Robots Do badge, the girls will create their very own robot.

Step 1 Learn About Robots
Ask the girls what they know about robots. After listening to their answers, show them how robots do jobs in the workplace.
This video is the Jelly Belly Factory. There are lots of machines in the first minute and 30 seconds. At the 1:40 point, there is a robot machine that picks the bags. This job was probably done by people, but robots are faster.
This video is about Amazon and the robots that work in its enourmous warehouses. You can see the robots at the 45 second mark.
Tesla has humans working with robots to make its electric cars.
This is a very kid-friendly video and made just for them.

Step 2 Find Out What Robots Can Do
Girls will design their own robots. They will need large white paper and pencils to create their designs. During this step, share with the girls the different parts of a robot-the brain, the body and the sensors.
Step 3 Team Up to Design Your Own Robots
Place the girls into groups of 3-4. Have them think of a job they want a robot to do, and then they can design it on paper in pencil. When all are done designing, they can share what they did with the others.
For early finishers, have some robot coloring pages available.
